A new start with self-care

To many people, the new year is the perfect time for a new start. And I couldn’t agree more! Whether you’re opting for a fresh list of resolutions or simply consider the period after the holidays a suitable time to stir things up, a new start can really make a positive change in your life. As an avid supporter of the concept of self-care, I’d like to take this opportunity to share these little lists of self-care ideas with you. I hope they’ll give you some inspiration to embrace a fresh new start!

Clean and organize for overview
  • Reorganize and clean out your purse or wallet
  • Organize your winter wardrobe (and toss out or give away items you don’t wear, mend items you want to keep)
  • Reorganize your make-up bag (and clean your brushes and sharpen your pencils while you’re at it)
  • Clean out your fridge and pantries (and toss away expired items or give away products you don’t use)
  • Clean up your computer / e-mail inbox (and don’t forget to choose a new inspiring wallpaper)

Rest for clarity of mind
  • Go to bed early to catch up on some sleep
  • Turn off the television and other electronic devices, and read a good book instead
  • Take a cat-nap on your day off
  • Put on some sounds of nature (like the ocean, a rainforest or a rainstorm), sit back and relax
  • Attempt some (new) guided meditations*

* Currently my favorites are Simply Being and Relax & Rest by Meditation Oasis

Soul-search for personal development
  • Make a bucket-list to find out where your passions lie
  • Pick up an activity which used to make you happy when you were little
  • Deliberately open up to have meaningful conversations (both with people you know and strangers)
  • Make some time to draw, paint or write, to get in touch with your artistic side
  • Do some personality tests online to get to know yourself better*

* My favorite personality tests include the Myers-Briggs 16 personalities test and the Love Language test

Practice bodily care for confidence
  • Treat yourself to an (at home) facial
  • Reserve a day to visit the gym and go for a vigorous work-out
  • Consult your hairdresser about a completely new haircut
  • Discover and cook a new healthy recipe
  • Create an easy work-out plan, and stick to it*

* I save my favorite at-home exercises on Pinterest
