My favorite green smoothie recipes

Smoothies are generally made with fruits like blueberries and strawberries, making them milk-shaky and delicious. And with overpowering berry flavors, it’s easy to throw in some greens as you’ll barely end up tasting them!

But what if you’d like to avoid berries all together? Or if you’d like to add some extra (and unconventional) greens? If you want to avoid some of the fruity calories, or if you simple enjoy the green and earthy flavor? Look no further: In this article I will share my favorite green smoothie recipes with you!

A note on quantities

I generally estimate the quantity of ingredients with smoothies, rather than weigh them out. As every blender (and every appetite) differs, I generally use the 1/2 ingredients, 1/2 liquids rule.

I measure this out by putting the solid ingredients together in a cup first (or in one of those really easy smoothie cup blenders, like the infamous Magic Bullet) and topping the rest off with my liquids.

This way your smoothie won’t get too thick to suck through a straw, but will still remain packed with nutrients!

Green smoothie recipe: Bok-choi

This bok-choi smoothie is packed with greens, but tastes delicious and fresh. A recommendation to people who want their greens, but prefer not too taste them too well!

Solids

  • Bok-choi (greens and stalk)
  • Pear
  • Celery
  • Mint

Liquids

  • Milk (vegetarian option: Soy or almond milk)

Green smoothie recipe: Creamy breakfast

The avocado and banana will make sure your smoothie will have a beautiful, creamy texture. The (beneficial) fats will make sure you’ll keep a full feeling well until lunch, and the oatmeal and chia seeds will provide you with fiber and energy!

Solids

  • Avocado
  • Banana
  • Baby spinach
  • Oatmeal
  • Chia seeds

Liquids

  • Milk or water

Green smoothie recipe: Avocado health boost

This recipe is packed with anti-oxidants and vitamin C. It’s a great drink when you’re feeling under the weather!

Solids

  • Avocado
  • Baby spinach
  • Kale
  • Blueberries
  • Matcha green tea powder

Liquids

  • Soy milk or almond milk

Iced matcha latte

Not quite a smoothie, but prepared in the same way – and definitely a favorite!

Solids

  • Matcha green tea powder
  • Ice cubes

Liquids

  • Soy milk or almond milk

A note on preparation

As I recently started to meal prep my lunches, I also made a habit of pre-preparing my smoothies. You can do this by putting the solid ingredients (except the matcha green tea powder) in a ziplock bag and putting them in the freezer. This way you simply have to empty your bag in the blender; you’ll only have to add your liquids. The frozen ingredients will make your smoothie taste nice and cold; no need to add extra ice!
